Final Fantasy VII - Tips

Below are some tips that can help you during your time playing Final Fantasy VII. They will make the game easier so if you like a challenge you may want to avoid using some of them.

1) Almost Immortality
2) Kalm Traveler
3) Crashed Gelnika
4) Red Submarine
5) Final Attack Materia
6) Easy Money
7) Easy AP
8) Chocobo Racing Trick
9) Duplicate Items
10) Lucky 7s

1) Almost Immortality

The concept is simply, but meeting the requirements is not. Basically you have to pair the Final Attack materia with the Phoenix summon or Life 2. When the player who has it equipped dies, they will automatically cast the spell that is paired with the materia, bringing them back to life. Phoenix works best because it will revive all party members, but if you have three Final Attack materia and three seperate Life 2 spells available then pairing this on each character will be more MP efficent. One thing to note is that you must have enough MP to cast the spell, and you must not be silent. But this is common sense right? You can read tip 5 to find out how to get Final Attack or see the Materia page.

2) Kalm Traveler

The Kalm traveler is a quest NPC located in Kalm town. He will ask you for three items; a Guide Book, a Desert Rose and an Earth Harp. For each item, the guy will give you a reward. The reward for the Guide Book isn't that great, it's only the Underwater materia which stops the clock when fighting Emerald Weapon. You can beat Emerald Weapon within the 20 minute time limit however, so that's why I think this reward isn't good. To get the Guide Book, you have to morph Ghost Ships which can be found at the underwater reactor.

The reward for bringing the Desert Rose to the guy is a gold chocobo, which by then you will already have one. You will get the Desert Rose when you defeat Ruby weapon. To defeat Ruby weapon you're going to need the Knights of the Round materia, which requires a gold chocobo. See?

The best reward is the one you get for bringing the Earth Harp, which is a set of Master Magic, Master Summon and Master Command mareria. These are the best materia in the game. To get the Earth Harp, simply defeat Emerald Weapon. Ok, it's not that simple but check out the Defeating Weapons page if you need help.

3) Crashed Gelnika

There is a sunken ship called the Gelnika located near the Gold Saucer. This ship originally belonged to Shinra so you can expect it to contain some useful things. The ship can only be accessed with your submarine. You can find the Hades materia here, along with Cid's level four limit break item. You can also morph the fiends into the stat boosting items.

4) Red Submarine

On disk 2 when you reach the submarine battle point it is possible to to use a red submarine instead of one you normally get for this battle. The trick to doing this is to lose the battle. Afterwards, when you head back towards the area to repeat the battle you will encounter some guards. Kill these and then talk to the dog. The dog will run away, so follow it and then you will get to the red submarine.

5) Final Attack Materia

As mentioned in the first tip, this materia is highly useful for some aspects of the game. But how do you acquire this materia? Well, the key is to purchase both the W-Summon materia and the Omnislash limit break from the Battle Square of the Gold Saucer. After you do this, you will be asked to participate in a series of special battles. After you win the special battles, you will be given the Final Attack materia.

6) Easy Money

The idea of getting easy money in a game is always good, so this will be very useful. Simply sell a mastered All materia to any shop and you will be given 1,400,000 gil for it. The only time consuming part is mastering the All materia.

7) Easy AP

The best monsters in the game to fight for AP are the Movers and Magic Pots located in the Northern Crater area of the game. The Movers are more rare but give 800 AP each, while Magic Pots give 1000 each. Movers usually come in groups of 3 or 4 while Magic Pots in groups of 2. To defeat a Magic Pot you must first feed it an Elixir. You should also equp the Apocalypse sword on Cloud for triple AP gain. Try to equip double AP armour or weapons on your other characters. If you need more Elixirs, see tip 9.

8) Chocobo Racing Trick

If you hold the R1, R2, L2 and L1 buttons while racing chocobos your stamina will decrease slower.

9) Duplicate Items

I see this tip as more exploiting a coding bug than an actual gameplay tip, so if you don't like cheating then I suggest you don't use it. But if you are going to use it, you will need to have the W-Item materia equipped. You can find out how to get this materia by visiting the Materia page. Once you have this, enter a battle and select the item you wish to duplicate. Select the character you wish to use it on, then go to select your second item. It must be the same item. When you're at the point where you're supposed to select a character to use it on, push the cancel button. Repeat the selection and canceling until you have your desired amount of this item. You must have two of the item before you can duplicate.

10) Lucky 7s

If you can set up your HP to be exactly 7777 then you will enter a special Lucky 7s mode where every physical attack the character does will be 7777 damage and your attack speed will be increased. This will last for as long as your HP is 7777.
